India, England Chennai Test Players pay homage to Jayalalithaa
India and England cricketers are sporting black armbands on Friday during the 5th Test in Chennai as a mark of respect for former Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa, who passed away last week. The players also paid their homage to the departed soul of Jayalalithaa by observing a minute's silence before start of the game. "We have requested both England and India teams to wear black armbands as a mark of respect for the departed soul of our former CM J Jayalalithaa. The groundsmen at the MA Chidambaram stadium did an excellent job to protect the pitch and square to ensure the Test started promptly. A sharp spell of overnight rain too did not delay the match. Both Ravichandran Ashwin and Murali Vijay, key members of the team hailing from Chennai, tweeted their condolences over the death of Jayalalithaa and on the suffering caused by the cyclone.
